Andy Pandy

Here's a bird's eye-view of our newest addition to Wapsell Cavies.  Now one year old, Andy Pandy is a tort & white Teddy stud boar, kindly sold to us by Tandy Cavies near Bristol.

His father is a fabulous roan Teddy called Smokey Joe, and his mother is a cream Teddy called Homestead Hanna, both descended from imported Scandinavian Teddy lines.

As you can see, Andy Pandy's Teddy coat is better than our other Teddy stock and we hope to improve our line over the forthcoming years as Andy Pandy's influence is felt in the caviary.

Andy Pandy's first litter of three Teddy boars were born to Wapsell Mia on 3 September [pictured below], and his litter of four - two boars and two sows - were born to Wapsell Milou on 10 February 2008.  His latest two babies were born on 5 June.

Promyse's daughters

This is Promyse with her first litter of two sows, born on 5 June.  Hiding under mum is PeggySue, while her sister, PollyAnna looks on.

Both sows are staying here.

MaggieMay

Here's another of Andy Pandy's daughters - MaggieMay.  She was born on 19 March and is a tortie & white Teddy like her father.

Her mother, Moffat, is a smooth Teddy/lilac carrier whose mother is Molly - one of BillyBob's daughters.

MaggieMay is staying with us.

Paddington follows in Andy's footsteps

Here's a photo of Andy Pandy's first son, Paddington.  He won 1st prize in the 5-8 months Teddy class at North Somerset Cavy Society's show on Saturday 15 March, and 1st prize in the Rare Varieties Challenge class for 5-8 months pigs.  He also came 3rd in the Rare Varieties Challenge Members' class.

Well done, Paddington!

Mia and Mini Mia

Wapsell Mia has just given birth to her last baby.  Welcome to Wapsell Mini Mia, a beautiful Teddy sow pictured here at two days.

Mini Mia will be staying with us as a breeding sow, and Mia is retiring to the luxury of telling the younger sows how to raise their litters.

Milette's new babies

Born on 4 December, this litter of pups is the first we have from breeding two smooth Teddy/lilac carrying guinea pigs together.

We've been more than lucky.  Three of the four babies are Teddies, with one lilac Teddy boar and one lilac/gold argente Teddy sow.  The black and white Teddy is also a boar, and there is one beautiful self black boar which has a 50:50 chance of carrying Teddy and/or lilac.

The lilac boar, now called Wapsell Wintersmith, and the argente sow, Wapsell Maya, will remain here.  The black and white Teddy and the self black boar have both been sold.

Andy Pandy's first babies

We were very proud to announce the arrival of Andy Pandy's first litter, born to Wapsell Mia, on Monday 3 September.  There were three boars in this litter, called Wapsell Paddington, Wapsell Pooh, and Wapsell Pudsey.  Wapsell Pudsey (the tortie & white on Mia's left) has been sold as a stud boar to a Teddy breeder in Kent.

These boars are BillyBob's great grandsons.  Mia is one of his granddaughters.  Also pictured above, Mia has now retired from breeding, having recently given birth for the third time to a single daughter, Mini Mia.

About us

Val Leppard and Bill Seymour formed Wapsell Cavies several years ago, after Bill had been breeding cavies for several years and infected Val with his enthusiasm for all things to do with these marvellous creatures.

The name Wapsell Cavies was registered with the British Cavy Council in 2002, following which all our home-bred cavies are known with the prefix "Wapsell" in front of their names, indicating they were bred by us.

Cavies we have purchased from other breeders show their original caviary stud name, where we know it. We hope you enjoy browsing our website. Please sign our guestbook if you have any comments or suggestions for us.

Pictured here [March 2008] is our foundation Teddy Stud, Cavyshed BillyBob, kindly sold to us by Caroline Harrold from Nottingham, together with his great, great grandson, the Wintersmith, a mainly lilac Teddy boar.

BillyBob lives indoors, in the kitchen.
